Took this one awhile back. The bowling gene runs strong with Marlo. Her excitement and glee was putting energy back into the grid.
I had the girls over the 4th and again this past weekend. We had a blast. Small town parade with floats, veterans, bagpipes, marching bands and candidates. Candy was thrown in copious amounts. I was not prepared for the candy and the girls had to use the only thing I had, diaper bags (the kind you put dirty diapers in; same form factor as dog poop bags) to store their stash. They didn’t care. Too many taffy pieces in waxed paper, Tootsie rolls and fun size bars to collect.
I was happy the girls got to have the small town parade experience. Compared to parades from my youth, notable differences in this parade were: fewer horses, fewer vintage cars and no Shriners. The no Shriners was particularly sad. I assume they spent the fourth at a larger parade, but grown men in fezzes driving go-carts is an image every child needs in their memory bank.
We spent a lot of time with my family and had a blast swimming, visiting and eating. At the end of the day, we had a sleepover at my mom’s place and the girls passed out from exhaustion.
2 grill outs at two separate places in one day finally put hamburger on Leta’s approved menu. I made burgers last night and the girls ate them. Condo burgers are a go.
Breathing. Living. Taking photos. Projects. Sun. Lovely.
This week: final rehearsals for the Swim Herschel Swim/Stretch Armstrong reunion show on the 14th. I’ll do a separate post about my gear setup.

This Did Not End Well
I was summarily dismissed from behind the kit, wisely, after a few songs of this nonsense. To be fair, I was worried about the neighbors. There comes a point where the idea of a party shutdown stops being something that unites youth culture against oppressive policing and becomes shameful middle age awkwardness. I did not want to be at the helm when/if the law made an appearance. McQueen took over with abandon nd I jumped on a Casio and destroyed a bunch of classic rock staples, Haden Church played bass, acoustic guitar and sang. Sadly, Smoke on the Water was spared.
Been a long time since I sat behind a kit for any length of time. Let’s hope, for the sake of the children, it stays that way.
Sidebar: Great birthday party! Happy 39th, McQueen!
Storm Won’t Quit
Can’t escape the weather.
Leta and me(I?) are visiting family near Bear Lake in Northern Utah. We had hopes of hikes, bike rides and photo walks.
We have played some serious foosball and Leta is a good forward player. I have had serious middle school flashbacks. I played a lot of foosball in 7th & 8th grade. A lot. Its been fun to be on a team with Leta.
We head back tomorrow and I know that Leta will not want to leave. I won’t want to leave.
I took the girls to the Utah State Capitol building awhile back. We’ve driven by the building so much this winter that Leta kept asking to go in. I tried to give her an overview of the three branches of government and how bills become laws or don’t. Not too interested, so I shut up. She just wanted to see the building. Marlo? Marlo wanted to run everywhere and explore. Since the space is so open, I let her run, but kept her in my line of sight. I was struck by her tiny body in this massive space. The building is a draw for wedding portraits and tourists so the day we were there, Marlo had to see what everybody was up to. The light was just right and I grabbed this shot.

iPhone shot. Minor tweaks in Aperture. This bike is in front of one of my favorite Salt Lake diners. I took this shot as a test to see if the angle would work on a bigger camera. I may go back with the big camera and shoot, but this turned out so well.
